Import your workouts from TrainingPeaks

Move your TrainingPeaks history and planned workouts to TrainerPlan by uploading the Workout Summary export.

If you are moving from TrainingPeaks, you can bring your training history and your upcoming planned workouts across in a few minutes. TrainingPeaks lets every account export a Workout Summary file, and TrainerPlan reads that file and places each workout on the right day of the calendar.

What comes across

  • Completed workouts: duration, distance, average and maximum heart rate, average power, TSS and energy (kJ).
  • Planned workouts: the planned duration or distance, so the coach's upcoming plan is ready on the calendar.
  • Titles, descriptions and comments: the workout description and both coach and athlete comments go into the workout description. IF, RPE and Feeling are added there too.
  • Races become events on the calendar (priority C, so they don't replace your main goal). Day Off becomes a rest day.

The export does not include GPS tracks, charts or laps. To get those, connect your device or app (Garmin, Strava, Wahoo, COROS…) under Connect device. When one of them syncs an activity on a day that already has the imported workout, it merges into it instead of creating a second one.

Step 1: export the file from TrainingPeaks

  1. In TrainingPeaks, open the account settings and go to Export Data. Coaches do this from each athlete's account settings.
  2. Under Workout Summary, choose a date range of up to 12 months and click Export.
  3. Unzip the download. Inside you will find a .csv file: that is the one you upload.

Tip: set the end date in the future to bring planned workouts across as well. For more than 12 months, export one year at a time and upload each file.

Choose Workout Summary, not Workout Files. Workout Files are the raw device files and the importer cannot read them.

Step 2: upload it to TrainerPlan

Coaches: go to Athletes, open the athlete and click Import activities in the menu on the left of their profile. The workouts go onto that athlete's calendar.

Athletes: click your photo at the top right, open My Profile and click Import activities in the menu on the left.

  1. Choose the .csv file and click Preview. Nothing is saved yet.
  2. Check the preview: how many workouts will be imported, how many are planned and completed, how many will be skipped, the dates covered, a breakdown by sport and the first few workouts.
  3. Click Import these workouts. Large files are imported in batches and the button shows the progress. Keep the page open until you see the confirmation.

Uploading the same file twice

It is safe to upload a file again, or files whose dates overlap. Workouts that are already on the calendar are skipped, and so are completed workouts that a connected device already synced on the same day with a similar duration. The preview tells you how many will be skipped before you import.

How sports are matched

  • Run, Bike, MTB, Swim, Strength and Rowing keep their sport.
  • Day Off becomes Rest, and Race becomes an event.
  • Walk, Brick, Cross-train, XC-Ski, Custom and anything else are imported as Other, so no workout is lost.

If something goes wrong

  • "Please upload the .csv file, not the zip": unzip the download first and upload the .csv inside it.
  • "That does not look like a TrainingPeaks Workout Summary export": you probably exported Workout Files or Custom Metrics. Export Workout Summary instead.
  • "That file is too large": files are limited to 5 MB. Export a shorter date range.
  • Some rows could not be read: those rows (usually without a valid date) are left out and the rest are imported normally.
