Time zones: set your time zone as a coach or athlete

Set your time zone, or an athlete's, so today's date, message times and activities synced from Garmin or Apple Watch match where you actually are.

Each TrainerPlan account, coach or athlete, has its own time zone. TrainerPlan uses it to decide which day is today for you, to show message and comment times in your local time, and to put activities synced from some watches on the right day. Check it when you coach athletes who live or travel in another time zone, or when you move or travel yourself.

What your time zone affects

  • Which day is today in TrainerPlan.
  • The time of messages and workout comments. You see them in your time zone, and your athlete sees them in theirs.
  • The day and start time of synced activities. Activities from Garmin and Apple Watch are placed on the calendar using the time zone in your TrainerPlan settings. If it's wrong, an early-morning or late-evening session can show up on the day before or after, with the wrong start time.

Planned workouts don't move between time zones: a workout planned for Tuesday stays on Tuesday for both coach and athlete.

Set your time zone on the web

  1. Click your profile picture in the top right and choose My Profile.
  2. In the left menu, click Settings.
  3. In Timezone, choose your region, for example Europe/Madrid or America/Mexico_City.
  4. Click Update.

The steps are the same for coach and athlete accounts.

Set your time zone in the mobile app

  1. Tap the profile icon in the bottom bar, then Settings.
  2. Choose your region in Timezone.
  3. Tap Update.

Set an athlete's time zone as a coach

If an athlete's synced activities land on the wrong day, check their time zone and correct it for them:

  1. Open the athlete and click Profile.
  2. Choose the athlete's region in Timezone.
  3. Click Update.

Athletes can also change it in their own settings. Whichever change is saved last applies.

Good to know

  • When you sign up, TrainerPlan fills in a time zone for you: from your location on the web, or from your phone's time zone in the app. It doesn't update itself after that, so change it when you move or travel to another time zone.
  • The list shows regions and cities with their UTC offset. The offset in brackets is today's, and summer time is adjusted automatically for the region you pick.
  • Strava activities keep the local time at which they were recorded, so this setting doesn't change their day.
  • Your time zone only affects your own account. Changing yours doesn't change your athletes' time zones.
