Connect Strava to import your activities automatically

Connect your Strava account so completed activities import into your TrainerPlan calendar automatically and merge with the workouts your coach planned.

Connect Strava and the activities you save on Strava are imported into your TrainerPlan calendar automatically, so your coach can review them without you uploading any files. When an activity matches a workout your coach planned, TrainerPlan merges the two and marks the workout as completed.

Connect your Strava account

  1. On the TrainerPlan website, open Connect device in the menu, or Connections in your profile. In the mobile app, tap the profile icon in the bottom bar and open Connections.
  2. On the Strava card, click the orange Connect with Strava button. In the app, switch Strava on.
  3. Sign in to Strava and authorise TrainerPlan.
  4. Back in TrainerPlan, choose whether to import your past activities from the last 7, 14 or 30 days or the last 3 months, or choose Don't import to start with new activities only. Confirm with Finish (Import in the app).

Past activities are imported in the background, and you get a notification when they are in. From then on, every new activity you save on Strava shows up on your calendar by itself.

What is imported

  • The activity's name, description, date and start time, sport, distance, moving time, pace or speed, and elevation gain.
  • Heart-rate, pace or speed, power, cadence and altitude data for the charts, plus laps, time in zones and training load.
  • If you rename an activity or change its sport on Strava, TrainerPlan updates it too.
  • Your coach gets a notification for each new activity.

How activities are matched with planned workouts

When an activity arrives, TrainerPlan looks on the same day for a planned workout of the same sport that has a distance or a duration. If it finds one, the activity is merged into it and the workout is marked as completed, so your coach can compare what was planned with what you did. If there are several, it picks the one closest in distance or duration. If there is none, the activity is added as a separate completed workout.

If an activity was merged into the wrong workout, open the workout's menu on the calendar and use Unmerge to separate them.

Good to know

  • The Strava connection only brings activities in. Planned workouts are not sent to Strava.
  • If your watch brand is also connected directly (for example Garmin, COROS or Suunto), the same session can arrive twice. TrainerPlan keeps the Strava copy on your calendar but doesn't count it in your totals or charts.
  • If the connections page asks you to contact your coach, connections are not enabled on your coach's account.
  • To disconnect, click Remove on the Strava card, or switch Strava off in the app. Activities that were already imported stay on your calendar.
