Plan your season with an annual plan
Lay out your season week by week, with your races, the training phase of each week and your planned volume, and see each week's target in your calendar.
An annual plan lays out your season week by week: your races, the training phase of each week and how much you plan to train. The weekly targets then show in your calendar, so you can check them against what you actually did. The annual plan is included in Premium.
The annual plan is in the web app only. It isn't in the mobile app.
Before you start: add your races
Your plan is built around your races, so add them to your calendar first. See Create events and competitions in your calendar. You can also add a race later from inside the plan.
Create a plan
- In the top menu, click ATP.
- Click New Annual Plan.
- Choose Manual to fill in the weeks yourself. To let TrainerPlan lay out the season for you, see the next section.
- Enter the Plan name, the Start date and the End date.
- Under Plan measure, choose how you count your training: Duration, Distance or Effort.
- Click Add plan.
The plan opens as a table with one row per week.
Or let TrainerPlan build it
With Automatic, TrainerPlan splits your season into phases around your races and sets a target for every week.
- Click New Annual Plan and choose Automatic.
- Enter the Plan name, the dates and the Plan measure.
- Enter your Weekly average, and choose a Recovery cycle: an easier week every 3 or 4 weeks. You can also set your Easiest week and Hardest week.
- Under Events, click Add event for each race. A-priority races get their own Peak and Race phases; B and C races are marked but don't change the plan.
- Click Generate.
The plan opens with every week filled in. Change any week as you like, then click Save plan.

Fill in your weeks
For each week you can set:
- Event: the race that week. Pick one of your events, or choose + Create New Event... to add a new one.
- Mesocycle: the training phase. Your first plan comes with six phases: Preparation, Base, Build, Peak, Race and Transition. Choose Manage Labels in the same menu to add your own or change their colours.
- Planned: the volume you plan for the week, in hours, distance or Effort, depending on the plan measure.
- Details: a short note for the week.
The Completed column fills in on its own from the workouts you complete. The total for the whole plan is shown at the top. When you're done, click Save plan.
To change the name, dates or measure later, click the arrow next to the plan name and choose Edit. The same menu lets you switch between your plans, and Copy and Paste the weeks of one plan into another.
See your targets in the calendar
The weeks of your active plan show in your calendar, with the week's totals. Each week that has a mesocycle shows a coloured label with the phase and the planned volume.
If you have a coach
- Plans your coach makes for you also appear in your ATP list, with Trainer as the Owner. You can open them, but only your coach can change them.
- Only one plan is active at a time: its weekly targets show in your calendar. A plan you create doesn't replace your coach's active plan. To use yours, choose it under Active plan in the list, and choose your coach's plan the same way to switch back. Talk to your coach before you change it.
On a Basic account
On a Basic account, ATP doesn't appear in the menu. To upgrade, go to My Profile > Plans on the web, or Settings > Plans in the mobile app.
Good to know
- The annual plan sets weekly targets. It doesn't add workouts to your calendar.
- Plans you own show You as the Owner. You can edit or delete them from the list.
- The plan list shows all your plans, your coach's included. Use Active plan to choose which one shows in the calendar.
- Coaches: see Generate an annual training plan (ATP).
