How can we help you?  / TrainerPlan Virtual

Getting started with TP Virtual (beta)

Ride or run in a 3D world, connect your indoor training sensors, and choose whether to save your session to your TrainerPlan calendar.

TP Virtual is TrainerPlan’s browser-based indoor training experience for athletes. You can cycle or run, follow a planned workout, and share a route with other athletes. It is currently in beta.

Open TP Virtual

  1. Sign in to your TrainerPlan athlete account.
  2. Open your profile dropdown and select TP virtual, marked beta. It opens in a new tab.
  3. Choose Cycle or Run and follow the sensor setup.

If the menu item is missing, check that you are using an athlete account. The TrainerPlan team can temporarily hide this beta feature from the menu.

For Bluetooth sessions, use desktop Chrome or Edge with Bluetooth enabled. You can also choose Explore with simulated sensors to try the experience without connecting equipment.

Connect your sensors

Wake your device, select Find sensor, and choose it in the browser’s Bluetooth window. TP Virtual detects the available readings after you grant access. Check that the numbers update when you pedal or move before starting.

Cycling: connect a compatible Bluetooth smart trainer or power meter. In Devices & sensors, you can also pair heart rate, cycling cadence, wheel speed, or a separate controllable trainer.

Running: connect a Stryd footpod, a compatible Garmin watch in Virtual Run mode, or a treadmill that broadcasts standard Bluetooth FTMS treadmill data. Add a heart-rate monitor if needed. For Garmin, stay on the Virtual Run pairing screen; for Stryd, move the pod to wake it.

Support depends on the device’s Bluetooth broadcasts and firmware. ANT+ devices are not supported directly. TP Virtual reads treadmill speed; use your treadmill’s own controls to change belt speed or incline.

If a device is missing, close other training apps connected to it, keep it nearby, check Bluetooth permissions, and try again. If a sensor disconnects during a session, reconnect it in Devices & sensors, check for fresh readings, then resume.

Choose a route and start

Choose a route from the home screen:

  • Seabreeze Circuit: a flat 8 km course with a marina, cafés, gardens and wetlands. A good choice for steady indoor sessions.
  • Sierra de Madrid: a route based on a real GPX track, with its road shape and elevation. The scenery is a virtual interpretation, not an exact recreation of every real building or tree.

Route names follow your app language. Both routes support cycling and running. Start your session once your activity sensor is sending readings, or use simulated sensors to explore.

For compatible smart trainers, enable Settings → Follow road gradient to feel climbs and descents. Adjust Gradient feel to change how strongly the slope affects resistance. This option must be enabled each visit. Close any other app controlling your trainer.

Follow your TrainerPlan workouts

Leave Settings → TrainerPlan sync on, then open Workouts to choose a planned session for your selected sport. The list includes the previous 7 days and the next 14 days.

TP Virtual uses the relevant training zones and body metrics from your TrainerPlan profile. After changing them in TrainerPlan, use Settings → Refresh from TrainerPlan.

Follow the displayed workout targets during your session. Automatic ERG control is not yet available, so adjust your effort and resistance yourself.

Train with others or go solo

Multiplayer is on by default. When you start a session, runners and cyclists on the same map can see one another. Your first name, activity type and virtual position are shared; this is your position on the virtual course, not your physical location.

Turn Settings → Multiplayer off to train solo and hide your position. The choice is remembered in your browser.

Personalize your athlete

Open Settings → Your kit to change your top, shorts and logo colors. You can upload a PNG, JPG or WebP logo up to 2 MB, keep its original colors or tint it, and preview the result before saving. A transparent PNG works best.

Your saved kit is linked to your athlete profile and visible in multiplayer. The athlete model follows the gender setting in your TrainerPlan profile.

Finish, save and leave feedback

When you finish a ride or run, review the summary and choose:

  • Save to TrainerPlan: adds a completed workout to your calendar, or adds results to the selected planned workout when it is eligible. TrainerPlan sync must be on.
  • Don’t save to TrainerPlan: finishes without uploading the activity to your calendar. A local copy stays in this browser, and you can save the activity to TrainerPlan later from My activities.

If the planned workout already has results or is no longer available, save the session as a separate activity. Simulated sessions are labelled as demos if you choose to save them. If saving fails, TP Virtual keeps the session in this browser and retries automatically; you can also select Retry save to TrainerPlan.

After you choose whether to save, a feedback form appears. Rate your experience, leave a comment, or select Not now. Feedback is optional and is shared with the TrainerPlan team along with your name, sport and route. Sending feedback does not save an activity to your calendar.

You can also open the help widget outside an active session. It stays hidden while you are riding or running.
